Happy Tuna

October 15th, 2008 7:09 PM by Laurel

Ansley was enjoying herself this morning, and as we were outside playing, she commented cheerfully, “Day! Pretty Day!”

Later I said, “I’m making tuna for lunch!”

Ansley brightened up and yelled, “Tuna! Happy tuna!!!”

Pea Cases

James: “I see pea cases on your plate.”

Laurel: “Pea pods.”

James: “I call them pea cases because they hold peas!”

Be Quiet!

August 25th, 2008 4:51 PM by Laurel

We were out in the yard when the neighbor’s dog started howling to be let out of her cage. Ansley didn’t even look up from what she was doing, and said matter-of-factly, “Rosie, be quiet. Your mother teached you to be quiet. Quiet. We don’t like it.”

Nutrients

July 14th, 2008 12:02 PM by Laurel

Mom: “James, would you like a peanut butter sandwich?”

James: “Of course I’d like a peanut butter sandwich! It would give me nutrients and it would stop me being crazy and nutso!”

Daddy Is…

July 7th, 2008 9:54 PM by Laurel

This morning, James and Ansley were yelling what sorts of things Daddy is. James included such things as “Daddy is a chair!” and “Daddy is the wheel on a porta-potty!” This evening, I asked the kids what Daddy is, and Ansley yelled, “Daddy is a Shuga Daddy!”

“Relax”

July 3rd, 2008 9:42 PM by Laurel

James injured himself on his bike today and was on the couch crying afterward. Ansley came up to him and whispered, “Relax. Relax James.”

Shhhh

July 3rd, 2008 9:41 PM by Laurel

I served some broiled chicken to the family at the table and told Ansley, “Now don’t touch it- it has to rest for a while.” Ansley put her fork down and said, “Shhhhhhh…”

Spelt

April 15th, 2008 9:08 PM by Laurel

As we were finishing dinner, I closed our sliding glass door, and sang a silly song about being cold. When I turned around, James was standing behind me, holding a blanket for me, with a mouth full of un-chewed spelt from dinner, grinning. His lower lip was packed with spelt and looked like he was chewing tobacco! I had to remember that he had just done something nice for me in bringing me the blanket and thank him before I cracked up laughing at his face!

(For those friends and family members who aren’t health nuts, spelt is a grain that we cooked similarly to rice, sauteed, then simmered in broth)

Hat Tree

April 15th, 2008 9:03 PM by Laurel

As we were webcamming with Nana yesterday, I remembered that I had been teaching the kids a new song, and prompted Ansley, ‘Ansley, can you say, “The Gloria Patri’ Ansley repeated, “Da Glory of Hat Tree!”

Ansley Singing

April 2nd, 2008 12:00 AM by Laurel

This afternoon, Ansley took a stick and a giant plastic building block, banged them together in a rhythm, and sang, “I’m so happy! Some days are so happy! Some creatures are worried of me. Some fings are above me. Some fings are up dere!” (I don’t pretend to know the deeper meanings- I just laugh!)
